Train the Trainers

To develop capacity locally, Year of Care was commissioned to cascade this training throughout the NHS via a ‘train the trainers’ model and quality assurance process.

Other approaches including delivery of all training, or sharing training with the national trainers can be discussed with Year of Care Partnership.

A comprehensive programme of quality assurance has been established to ensure the effectiveness of the curriculum and delivery methodology at achieving its objectives and changing clinical behaviour.

All trainers should meet the criteria outlined on the application form (Word 108KB) and detailed in: Information and Guidance about National Care Planning Training (PDF 179KB). In particular experience of primary care and being committed to the ethos of care planning are particularly important for Trainers

The Process of becoming a Trainer

  • Take part in the 1½ day year of care training
  • Attend the 3 day “Train the Trainers”
  • Peer review while delivering year of care training
  • Quality assured delivering year of care training

Facilitation and Practice development

Some of the key learning from the programme were that individual practices can find some of the challenges associated with implementing Care Planning difficult to overcome.  The national team has developed and continues to develop resources to overcome these. However some mechanism of practice support and facilitation is crucial and can make the difference in terms of truly embedding this approach. The team have experience in this process and can offer varying degrees of support to teams depending on need and geographical location.
