Safe Use of Non-Insulin Therapies (SUNIT) e-learning module

SUNIT-button.jpgDiabetes has created this free e-learning module to improve healthcare professionals’ knowledge and confidence in the safe and effective use of non-insulin therapies.

The aim of the module is to improve patient safety by reducing the number of patients who experience medication errors and/or poorly controlled blood sugar levels while utilising non-insulin therapies, both of which are potentially life threatening.

The module urges healthcare professionals to:

  • Always tailor glycaemic targets to the individual.
  • Check specific manufacturers’ guidance when using therapies in people with diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
  • Always consider the risk of hypoglycaemia when using specific medicines in the elderly.
  • Check the NICE guidance CG87 when considering which medication to prescribe.
