Insulin devices

Information

Insulin is available in different presentations depending on the device ultimately used for the injection:

1. Insulin vials to be used with insulin syringes

2. Pre-filled insulin pens, which are disposable

3. Insulin cartridges to be used with reusable insulin pens

Note – not all insulin cartridges can be used with all makes of insulin pens. Please read the instructions carefully.

Additional guidance

  • Some insulin treatments combine both insulin pen use for one type of insulin and syringe for another type.
  • Some patients may also require two insulin pens if their treatment involves two different insulin types.
