Quality improvement

Modify the actions

Reflect the previous learning in the next implementation phase

Having implemented the change as part of the improvement project and measured the benefits on a smaller scale, the project team should consider how the change process could be rolled out wider to achieve maximum benefit.  This process will take into consideration the learning from the testing phases and also the data collected.  It may be that the learning from the testing phase will require the service change to be modified or refined before re-testing or rolled out on a wider scale.  This continuous refinement process allows for the service improvement to be incremental and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.

This continuous improvement approach is illustrated in the service improvement project undertaken by The Whittington Hospitals.

Next stage: Implement and spread the change
