NHS Diabetes holds new event: Diabetes and kidneys

NHS Diabetes held a well-received event last week in Sedgefield. 'Diabetes and kidneys: putting knowledge into practice’ was a free half day learning event for primary care staff across the North East.

Gillian Johnson and Kate Mackay ran the event, which covered:

  • Understanding the relationship between diabetes and kidney disease and know to practically manage it
  • Knowing how you and your patients are measuring up
  • Knowing the importance of measuring and acting on microalbuminuria results
  • Understanding the importance of data collection
  • Getting your burning questions answered

Prof. Rudy Bilous, Chief of Service Academic Division/Diabetes Consultant, The James Cook University Hospital and Dr Saeed Ahmed, Consultant Nephrologist, Renal Unit, Sunderland Royal Hospital were guest speakers at the event and gave lively and informative presentations.

Delegate feedback on the evaluation sheets was extremely positive and included comments such as:

  • “fantastic!!!”
  • “really useful session. Will feel more confident in monitoring and managing eGFRs and knowing when to refer.”
  • “will feedback to Clinical Diabetes Group and CCG on importance of attending events like this.”
