Ethics and Research Guidance
Ethical approval
All survey tools and protocol for the DPEP work, as included here, were submitted to the Oxfordshire Research Ethics Committee before the piloting of the survey. All documents were approved for use, critically the patient information sheets and postal covering letters as these document the patient’s rights in suitably easy to understand language.
However, if you carry out this survey within your organisation, you are not required to submit your documents to an ethics committee as they are classified by National Research Ethics Service as 'service evaluation' rather than 'research'. If you are using these survey tools to assist with research, we recommend that you consult with your local R&D office or your Local Research Ethics Committee(s) (LREC).
Research governance approval
As with ethics committee approval, research governance approval does not apply if your survey does not classify as ‘research’. You may want to discuss this with the research governance lead at your trust if you are unsure.
Research and development (R&D) approval
We do recommend that you contact your Trust R&D department so that they are aware of the survey you are conducting. They will be able to advise you of any necessary documentation to be completed and also any interactions with other similar projects.
