Diabetes audits

The National Diabetes Audit which covers England and Wales is the largest clinical audit in the world. It was established in 2003 and the adult and paediatric audits ran in parallel until 2010. As part of a re-tendering exercise in 2009 the specification was redefined and several new sections (footcare, pregnancy, inpatients and patient experience) were included in the adult audit.

How NHS Diabetes is supporting developments

We have developed and validated proof of concept audits for:

When proof of concept has been successfully piloted and reported for each diabetes audit specialist area these are then handed over to the adult diabetes audit consortium for incorporation in to the National Diabetes Adult Audit (NDAA).

Diabetes patient experience

In addition, we have also developed validated questionnaires and methods of collecting robust patient experience information in adults with diabetes and are researching the best approaches for children and young people. More details can be found on the Diabetes Patient Experience Tool.
