Information

Easy access to good quality information is vital to all healthcare processes and in particular to care planningquality improvement and commissioning. Information about local populations gives valuable insights to those planning services.

The need for robust information was recognised when the National Service Framework for Diabetes (NSF) was developed in 2003. Since then NHS Diabetes, and its predecessor the National Diabetes Support Team has been actively committed to supporting and financing developments which enable healthcare professionals to access high quality data and information.

How NHS Diabetes has been supporting developments

NHS Diabetes has led a series of projects to enable better access to and understanding of diabetes information. The results of these projects are described in the following linked pages.

  • National Diabetes Information Service (NDIS). NDIS has been established to provide coordinated and effective diabetes information to patients, commissioners, providers and regulators. NHS Diabetes funds the service that was launched as a result of feedback from a listening exercise.
  • Diabetes Patient Experience Tool. Our patient experience tool pages present a useful tool to help you collect patient experience information from primary care, community, outpatients and inpatient settings.
  • Diabetes Patient Experience Project – Children and Young people. NHS Diabetes in conjunction with Ci Research are developing tools to enable the views of children, young people and their carers to be sought.
  • Classification of Diabetes. NHS Diabetes and the Royal College of General Practitioners have produced recommendations for the classification of diabetes. The report and associated tools can be found in these pages.
  • Diabetes Audits. NHS Diabetes has funded and led a series of proof of concept audit projects designed to enable future incorporation into the National Diabetes Adult Audit.
