Brief description of unit 

The service is extremely busy with a large case load of 240 patients in the age range 0 – 18 years. New patients are accepted only under the age of 16 years. The full range of diabetes treatment options are available to the patients and they receive telephone support from the nurses every day of the week. Psychology support is also available. Clinics are age stratified and held every Thursday with the morning clinic for children under 13 years and the afternoon one for the older children.  Transition service is well established and joint clinics are run once a month.
