North West Paediatric Diabetes Network
Background
Across the North West region clinical leads come together to improve services for children and young people with diabetes. All 21 trusts that provide paediatric diabetes care to children and young people are part of the network. The North West area covers a large and varied geographical region stretch from Cumbria to Cheshire.
The North West Paediatric Network has been running in its current form since 2010 and developed out of a clinical network that looked mainly at research. Its aim is to improve the quality of care hospitals and other organisations offer to children and young people with diabetes and their families and carers. The group is attended by many clinicians from different backgrounds including PDSNs, dieticians and psychology staff as well as representatives from Diabetes UK and NHS Diabetes. Each trust who provides care is expected to attend.
In the future the network will broaden the membership further by including parent and carer representatives and developing stronger links with commissioners and business managers from paediatric diabetes in acute trusts.
