Regional guidance

London and South East Paediatric Diabetes Network

Vision

To empower children and young people with diabetes to work in partnership with healthcare professionals to establish a pathway of care that enhances and improves their health and control of diabetes.

The paediatric diabetes partnership brings together clinicians, service users, carers and commissioners across the SEC and London to improve services and share good practice. The Partnership is relatively new and 43 hospital paediatric units have joined together to collaborate and help improve services in both regions. Clinicians from the two areas decided to work together in developing the partnership as many units work across boundaries with patients from both regions.

For further details on the Partnership and its membership please see our ‘Terms of Reference’ (PDF 29KB).

The Partnership is currently working on the following areas:

  1. Raising the profile of the network/Partnership by identifying and engaging stakeholders.
  2. Getting all paediatric diabetes hospital units in both regions to sign up to a memorandum of understanding (PDF 39KB).
  3. Conducting a survey to identify numbers of children and young people with diabetes in both regions as well as staffing levels and service details in all paediatric diabetes units.
  4. Improving submission rates for the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA).
  5. Helping commissioners to understand paediatric diabetes requirements and supporting the implementation of paediatric diabetes best practice tariff.

Local Clinical Groups

SEC and London also have local clinical groups that are made up of clinicians to ensure that there is greater collaboration between services regionally - see here for a list of our local clinical groups.
